Project Description

Santa Clara Pueblo is located in Northern New Mexico encompassing 90 square miles of tribal land. The people of the Kha’P’o are deeply connected to the land, water, air, and animals of the region through farming, hunting, and gathering.

The Santa Clara Pueblo Community Needs Assessment is a comprehensive study conducted to identify the most pressing needs of the members of Santa Clara Pueblo. Considering the significant presence of the non-native community in the area and its frequent inclusion in federal data sets, it is crucial to collect data specifically from Kha’P’o. The information collected in the Community Needs Assessment will provide context and insight into the experiences and challenges of tribal members across various aspects of life, including housing, healthcare, transportation, education, employment, public safety, and support services. Individual responses will be aggregated and used to make data-informed programming decisions, support comprehensive planning, and secure grant funding.

Quantifying these needs will be essential for documenting a comprehensive understanding of community needs to inform policy, funding decisions, and strategies to improve and enhance living conditions. This project goals is to uphold the traditional Kha’P’o values of respect and protection of the important places, objects, and intangibles associated with their traditional lands and use areas.
